Mallory Park Circuit combines a compact layout with very different corner types, from the sweeping Gerard’s Bend to the tight Shaw’s Hairpin. Set in the Leicestershire countryside, it offers plenty to learn within a relatively short lap.

This guide introduces the main sections and helps you prepare for your first visit.

Circuit at a Glance

  • Location: Kirkby Mallory, Leicestershire, England
  • Main circuit length: Approximately 2.17 km / 1.35 miles
  • Direction: Clockwise
  • Character: Compact, flowing sections mixed with a tight hairpin
  • Key corners: Gerard’s Bend, John Cooper Esses, Shaw’s Hairpin and Devil’s Elbow

Mallory Park has alternative configurations. Its official circuit map lists the main layout without the chicanes at 1.35 miles, alongside a longer configuration using additional chicanes. Check the layout specified by your organiser before learning the lap.

Getting to Know the Lap

Gerard’s Bend

Gerard’s is the long right-hand bend at the beginning of the lap. Its sustained curve gives it a very different character from a short, clearly defined corner.

When exploring the layout, pay attention to how the bend develops towards its exit rather than treating it as a single turning point.

Stebbe Straight and the Esses

Stebbe Straight connects Gerard’s with the next section of the circuit. The John Cooper Esses introduce a change of direction before the approach to Shaw’s Hairpin.

Check whether your event uses Edwina’s chicane: an onboard video showing a different configuration can make this section confusing.

Shaw’s Hairpin

Shaw’s is the tight right-hand hairpin near the far end of the lap. It provides a clear contrast with the longer sweep of Gerard’s.

Use your preparation to recognise the approach and understand where the circuit goes afterwards.

Devil’s Elbow

Devil’s Elbow brings the lap back towards the start/finish straight. Learning how this final section connects to Gerard’s helps you build a complete picture of the circuit.

Preparing for Your Track Day

A short circuit gives you frequent opportunities to revisit the same corners. Make those repetitions useful: focus on learning the sequence and building consistency before increasing your pace.

Before travelling:

  • Confirm the layout and any chicanes being used.
  • Check the event’s noise limits, including static and drive-by requirements where applicable.
  • Read the joining instructions for arrival, signing on and the briefing.
  • Book instruction if you would like help understanding the circuit.
  • Plan regular breaks so familiarity does not turn into rushed laps.

Follow the overtaking rules given at your event briefing; do not assume they match a previous track day.
